Auditioning is the meeting of creativity, collaboration, and sharing our work with other artists.

The On-Camera Workout is your ongoing weekly practice in which to deepen your craft, and develop and practice the audition skills and on-camera mastery necessary to book work.
Under Sydney Walsh’s passionate leadership, your audition, self-tape, and on-camera work is anchored in the power of your weekly practice.

In this in-person on-camera practice, we jump into the creative waters every week to enjoy the exhilaration of this sacred connection of working with other human beings.

Monday Night is a community of actors, joined together in a practice for “ the room” or the Zoom room or the self-tape.

Our practice is all about finding our way dynamically into the text, the characters, and the circumstances, so that we can offer our work from our personal artistry.

Every week we are dedicated to the actor’s “personal moment before,” making that offering- the off camera place of preparation- the place of process, of discovery, and flow… making the material yours, finding it, OWNING it, so that you can come to the casting process to help BUILD and GROW the material on camera. The material that once seemed to “belong” to them, you now own, offer, and share.

And the rawness of that is everything. Sharing your journey to the script, as an actor “in a process,” with the material, finding your way with other actors, is everything.

Sydney’s been at this a while, and she’s dedicated to facilitating a process in which you come to trust your instincts and sharpen your choices, practicing it in supportive, high-stakes situations, and on-camera. Each week this class challenges your blocks and hones in on how to make your on-camera work, auditions, and self-tapes undeniable.

The work...

We ask all the questions and do the work of exploring, creating, devising, and inventing in order to respond together- as artists- to what the script is making us feel, think, and do.

We explore your material and LIVE IT OUT LOUD & ON CAMERA.

Through a variety of scene work and audition practices- from preparation to the casting room and beyond- you’ll engage in an immersive on-camera workout to strengthen your audition craft and sharpen your acting instrument to a fine point, so that you can perform at your absolute best. And- just as essential- be a whole, happy artist.

Your work in class happens in person, at The BGB Studio. You bring material into class or it will be provided. You also have access to our private BGB script and scene library.

Throughout each month, working under the expert guidance of Sydney Walsh, you are in the practice of…

  • Shifting your relationship with the camera so that you are working with it, not for it.
  • Claiming and expanding your bold, unique voice in your on-camera exploration.
  • Creating from a place of specificity, power, and ease- both on and off-camera.
  • Cultivating and maintaining a practice of presence- right from when you enter the room and throughout your time at bat.
  • Deepening your preparation.
  • Mastering the self-tape.
  • Collaborating with a group of dedicated, talented actors.
  • Becoming intimately familiar with the entire casting process and the business of acting and growing more confident in your career.
It's the journey that brings the results… you and the character are on a journey, and here we are with you every week, every step of the way.

"Sydney inspires actors by focusing in on what they have to bring to the material and freeing them up to make creative choices. She has razor focus and insight, a dedication and energy that will not cease until the actor and script are one. She creates an environment of generosity where people are inspired to play specific objectives and remain vulnerable; where there is trust and a sense of play. A television actor, an acting teacher, a developer of original material and a theatre director, she brings joy, wisdom, humility and humor to her art and to her fellow actors."

- Sally Smythe, Artistic Director, SOUTH PASADENA THEATER WORKSHOP

"Sydney Walsh is a dear friend and longtime collaborator. She is my sister in art and poetry. She has a gift for organizing the circle of the feast; welcoming newcomers to the banquet, getting old timers, like me, to eat and drink heartily, as if for the first time. She invites everyone within her circle to serve each other as a way of serving themselves. She is a hard working, ever curious and dedicated teacher, not to mention a fine, accomplished actress herself. One is lucky to be around her experience; one of strength and hope."

- Bernard White, KIDDING

"Sydney Walsh’s ability as a teacher to inspire is profound. Over the years she has lovingly pushed me to go deeper as an actor, writer, and director. She supports what is unique and special in each of her students and encourages them to fiercely bring those qualities into their work. Because of her many years as a working actor, she knows what you must bravely call forth from inside when auditioning and on set. Sydney imparts knowledge that will empower you in this business. Take her class, and I promise, you’ll feel galvanized!"

- Jackie Katzman, Creator/Exec Producer, STONE (PARAMOUNT TV)

"I’ve studied with a few coaches and teachers over the past few years, and I can honestly say that Sydney is for sure one of the best. Sydney is real, authentic, and so compassionate about ensuring her students push themselves and bring out the best they can offer."

- Kieran Roberts, UP COUNTRY

"Sydney meets you where you’re at. From beginner to advanced, everyone is challenged at their level. What I liked most is that she comes from an actor’s point of view, and directs in a way that is understandable. Sydney has a deep love of artists and it shows. My biggest takeaway was learning how to personalize a scene as opposed to emotionalizing it. This class gave me my power back and helped me push through some self doubt blockages. After taking Sydney’s class, I feel motivated to continue my practice and keep growing as an artist."

- JD Hearn, CAGED FORTUNE

"I LOVE Sydney’s class. It is the best acting class I have ever taken. From the first day it has completely changed the way I approached my craft. I’m SO HAPPY I found Sydney and The BGB Studio."

- Melanie Camp, THE SANDRA WEST DIARIES

Being in class and community with @sydsource and my classmates is, hands down, the best part of my week. I'm off of class this month and miss it...can't wait to be back! But if anyone out there reading this is on the fence about BGB, I urge you to give it a try. It's changed everything for me. Being able to connect and respond as a human to another human in real-time, whether in person or on Zoom is everything. It's fulfilling and restorative, and coming off of isolation, it's the antidote to stagnation and fear. For me, being in class at BGB is an act of radical self-love. Sydney's the real deal and I always find something new as an actor and human under her guidance. ❤
