Stay In Championship Shape

The Monday Night Workout pushes your boundaries, sharpens your artistic voice, and gets you into the kind of championship shape required to be successful.

This weekly workout class EMPOWERS you to become the actor and artist you’ve always known you can be. Not by waiting for permission, but by stepping forward with boldness, and sharing your gifts with the world.

Each week, BGB Master Teacher, Cate Cohen brings her real-world experience as a working actor and writer, and her deep love of the work to class. She challenges each actor to dig deeper and be braver. Cate creates the space for you to support and lift each other up, creating an environment where- week after week- your class community grows and thrives together. The class community is powerful.

The Monday Night Workout is where you get to own your power, define your own career, and to show up with confidence and ease in your self-tapes, Zoom and in-person auditions, on stage and on set.

The work...

What does a typical month look like?

Everyone works every class.

The month is made up of a combination of the following:

  1. Scene study with partners. Scenes are from film, tv, and theatre. We work on script analysis, how to incorporate adjustments, and take direction in real time, and how to handle your inner-critic to allow for the spontaneous, free expression in all of your work.
  2. On-camera/Self-tape practice. How to make choices and feel confident in them. To know each of your auditions is unique and will stand-out. This practice is huge.
  3. Writing: Writing exercises to help you create your own work. Nothing is more powerful than being able to create something from the ground up. And never has it been more important to do so. (*No prior writing experience is required. Writing assignments occur once a month or once every two months. Either in class or as homework. Class is meant to be a jumping off point, to give you the tools and community to shoot your own work/scenes/shorts outside of class time. This is the most fun an actor can have!)
  4. Exercises: Cate keeps you on your toes with a variety of exercises to help foster spontaneous, moment-to-moment work  (repetition and improv to name a few.)

"Since I’ve been taking Cate’s class I have seen tremendous growth in my approach to the work. She creates a place where I feel completely safe to play, allowing me the freedom to come to class with every part of me and just simply ‘BE.’ As a result, I approach my work not trying to impress onlookers by making the “right” choices but simply to affect my scene partner. I’m deeply grateful to Cate and The BGB Studio for cultivating an environment conducive to artistic growth."

- Terrell Martin, CATCH

"Because of Cate, I know I have found a home at BGB to play in the work. A space built on trust, on presence, on acceptance of the moment, to share and get feedback, to fail and laugh, to build my art on my own terms."

- Rebecca Gomberg, THE WEST AND THE RUTHLESS

"Cate’s class has changed my life. With such gentleness and kindness, she is killing the people pleaser in me and pushing me to be a leader in my craft. By no longer looking to others for validation, but rather finding happiness and fun in the work, I have experienced the freedom to create. I now have ownership in knowing where and how I want to really grow. As a result, my work has improved more in her class than the past decade of classes; and newfound confidence is now spilling into other areas of my life. I am forever thankful for Cate."

- Blaine Saunders, THE MIDDLE

"Working with Cate gives you the license to make bold choices in a scene, and the safe environment to play, make mistakes, and figure out what works for you. I felt instantly empowered to experiment and have fun in my work. Additionally, watching my fellow actors grow in her class was almost as beneficial as getting to do the work myself. Cate is strong and kind–everything I want in an ongoing teacher."

- Anne Fidler, LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT

"The gift that Cate gives me every week is a safe space for me to explore and ‘be present’ in my work. It is exciting and refreshing to study with someone who is not only a working actress, but is also in class. Cate’s honesty about her struggles and success is very freeing, and creates that safety. Her insight into how to “play” with a scene helps me to break old patterns and gain new awareness about myself and my instrument. Even more than ‘teaching’, Cate facilitates my growth and flexibility as I do “the work.” Now when I go to auditions and do workshops with casting directors, I feel free to play without worrying about how I’m doing. So fun!"

- Mary Kathleen Gordon, THE REAL O'NEALS
