You get good at what you practice.

The Ongoing Scene Study with Shane Connor opens up and examines your relationship to craft and preparation, in turn offering you total freedom to integrate authenticity into your work. Physicality, life, rhythm, and your uniqueness come together organically so you can playfully craft and trust your relationship to the source material, whatever genre it may be. This class gives voice and structure to the often unseen creative work that goes into fully embodying a character within a larger story, be it an audition scene (or a self-tape) or any piece of material you tackle.

Shane brings his extensive, award-winning, real-world acting experience — along with his deep love of the work, characters, and storytelling — to each class. He creates a revitalizing and safe space in which you get to re-forge a connection to your authentic self, to your humanity, and to the story. Whether you are looking to “hack the audition” or invest in your love of the craft, this is the home of your artistic practice. Here you get to practice what you love with mindfulness, heart, and dedication every week.

Each week you get to experience the freedom there is when you replace absolute choices with story, examining the difference between the two. You learn to build the history of what brought you to a scene or line, after which the outcomes are endless.

As you hone your preparation practice, you uncover your secret weapons of creativity, so that your work becomes even more authentic to who you are, more unforgettable to the Industry, and (most importantly) more exciting, vital, and fun for you to perform.

This class is for experienced actors looking for an in-depth consistent weekly exploration in how to make any material truly active and fully embodied with the power of their unique voice through story.

The work...

In this weekly workout, you’ll learn very quickly how to let go of any idea of performing and move into a practice of being affected by your scene partner, be they a reader or not. You’ll work with scenes from film and television scripts, and are also strongly encouraged to work on original material.

With over 20 years experience in theatre, film, and television around the world, Shane’s wisdom, experience, and passion offers you the unique experience of working with an Industry professional who has been a series regular multiple times, appeared in hundreds of episodes of television, carried lead roles in film, won (and lost) awards, and knows this work from all angles. As an actor who also writes and directs, Shane’s passion for sharing his knowledge and experience allows you to discover your own fierce talent.

From Shane:

In a studio, we will look at what has been working for you, enhance that, add to it, and then in a practical, no-bullshit way, look at what hasn’t been working for you. We WILL deal with that, and give you practical, pragmatic, honest solutions, so that whether in the room, self-taping, or on set,  you bring… you. This is my commitment to you. Commit to life, everyday life, in the same way, and therein lies your practice, your art.

"Shane set me on a journey immediately grounded in the work. His approach is rock solid. With him, everything changed."

- Keith Stallworth, THE AWFUL KIND

"Shane creates a safe and nurturing space in his classroom where you feel free to play, explore and connect. Through his classes, Shane has given me the tools I need to feel empowered and confident going into the room (or the zoom!). I’ve noticed a significant shift in my work and have re-connected to the joy of the process and the love of the artistry. I leave each class feeling grateful and inspired. Studying at BGB has been the best decision I’ve made. Both on a professional and on a personal level. I’ve never felt more part of a creative community than I do at BGB. And for that, I will be eternally grateful."

- Bre Mueck, SHAMELESS

"Shane’s kindness and joy through the work helped me focus on his core message– actors need to be present and themselves and… not much else. After working with Shane, I often remind myself, both in auditions and on set, that exactly where I am emotionally and physically is truly enough. He has helped immensely with my anxiety surrounding the Industry side of acting and has allowed my performances to be 100% more truthful."

- Amy Vorpahl, THE NEWSROOM

"Shane’s teaching carries both the wisdom and gravitas of an experienced master and the lightness and wonder of an eternal student. I appreciated how he approaches each of us with the equanimity of an artist meeting a fellow artist, with a style of gentle pointing-out that empowers us to finesse our performances from the inside. During a time when auditioning has shifted almost fully to self-tape and Zoom, taking Shane’s class has given me a lot of practical experience with observing and modifying my on-camera performance technique. I feel more relaxed and confident approaching my work based on what I learned from Shane and the other actors in his class."

- Carie Kawa, RATCHED

"Shane doesn’t tell you if you are doing it right or wrong. He offers you ‘what if’s’ and subtle hints that allow you as the actor to figure it out for yourself. His guidance is empowering and helps to rid you of self doubt because you are now doing work that you are proud of."

- Clayton Farris, AMERICAN HORROR STORY: HOTEL

"Shane’s teaching is directly in line with my moment to moment goal as an actor: ‘Stay ready…so I don’t have to get ready!’ In R.E. they say it’s location, location, location. For an actor…it is, ‘connection, connection, connection.’ Shane constantly imbues connection, connection, connection. You won’t ever ’act’ your way out of that with Shane! Shane’s process is all about making it real…not ‘acting’ it real."

- Don Baldaramos, SUBURBICON
